It was late by the time I got back to the office. Turns out the lead I thought I had was a bust. Just another dead end with the new annoying graffiti striker or whatever they decided to call it. Stuff like the ‘Hopeless will survive’ and ‘Fuck the world’. Delinquent activity. Not important. What was really bothering me was how Ryuu told me that blue-haired freak was now working in the same building as me. Damn it, I can’t believe this, just hope he’s stupid enough to not know who I am. Although I have the nagging feeling he does. I checked the queue outside and found the ridiculous name of ‘Felix Black’ posted there now. Typical of him using such a stupid name. His office was only a few floors above mine, and there wasn’t anyone else in the building. I wonder. He’s bound to have something useful in that office of his, and I could easily find a way to get inside...
I took a flashlight and few random tools to try opening the door with. I tried getting a screwdriver from the maintenance closet but it was locked, so I had to settle with a stapler, a handful of paper clips, and a letter opener. One of these had to work. Just a pain to hold the flashlight and try to open the door with one hand.
“Damn it, open already”
“Having trouble there?”
I jumped up seeing him standing next to me, and shone the flashlight right at his face.
“Hahaha Even you have your jumpy moments”
“What the hell are you doing back here?”
“this is my office, can’t I come back to it anytime I want?”
I stood in his way. Damn he always shows up at the worst times.
“Well either way I do need to get inside. I’m kind of in a hurry”
“If you’re in a hurry then just go.”
“What’s with that tone Amber? Besides you’re the one who should go home, you deserve a break”
I stood firmly in my spot with my arms folded. If he really was in a hurry, he couldn’t try avoiding my questions, he had a time limit. I might as well exploit it.
“What do you need to get?”
“Just a few miscellaneous items, nothing that concerns you.”
“I’m curious. After all we’re working in the same gang and building as informants.”
“True, but I recall this sort of business is a confidential matter. So then, I’ll tell you again”
He leaned forward, propping his arms next to my head. What was he doing? Nevermind, I can’t believe I have to stare at his ugly mug like this.
“Move aside Detective Belfry.”
I looked up. Damn it he did know. No matter, I’m not going to let him think he has me cornered.
“Whoop de do, you found me out.”
“ha, you don’t seem surprised.”
“I figured you’d be the first to find out anyway. I also figure you know why I’m blocking you”
“Yes I do, and for the most part I’ll gladly let you investigate my office, but not right now.”
“Why not now?”
He only smirked at me. What was so funny?
“Didn’t I say you should go home and I was in a hurry? It’s a bit late to conduct a proper investigation.”
“Don’t need to, but I might as well waste your time while I’m here. So answer me this, Mirus, why exactly did you take over the Red Wanderers?”
He let a sigh and then quickly kissed me. What?! I shoved his face away immediately.
“What the hell?!”
He only leaned closer, putting a very small distance between our faces.
“Sorry all business matters will have to wait until morning~”
I couldn’t look at him, what was he thinking? Stay focused. Don’t let him get to you. I glared back at him.
“Maybe for you. But I’m working over time, and I don’t intend to leave without getting something pertaining to this case”
“Aren’t you diligent? How quaint. Alright, I’ll waste your time slowly then~”
I found myself pushed against his office door and his lips meeting mine. I tried pushing him away again, but he insisted on trapping me between him and the door. Every time I wanted to move my face from his, he slowly followed so our faces never strayed away from each other long. I could feel my face warm up to his. No, he’s just distracting me. Stop. Stop it. Why am I feeling like this? I started to push him away less, my fingers trailed along his neck. Should I strangle him instead? Wait I needed information from him still. Damn it, why am I so indecisive right now? I have to push him away. I suddenly felt the door behind me open and myself being lifted up. He had unlocked the door. He carried me to his desk and laid me down on the flat surface. He finally let me get a chance to breathe. However now I was trapped between him and his desk, and what was worst he was over me. I propped myself up on my elbows to try to get things from going too far.
“Well since we’re inside, why don’t you get your things and go?”
“It’s not that simple inspector. I’ve decided that there’s one other thing I want more then what I intended to come here for”
I could feel his lips brush against my neck and his warm breath linger there. How could this son a bitch make me feel like this? I wanted to strangle him, punch his lights out, wipe that smug smirk off his face. Yet at the same time something drew me to him. Whether it was hate or something else I wanted to be near him, I wanted to keep fighting him like this. This game as he called it. I didn’t want it to end. I’d play along as long as I wanted. Before I realized it I was kissing him back, undoing his vest, and letting him unbutton my shirt. I shivered as his hand trailed over my exposed stomach.
“Why are your fingers so damn cold?”
“It’s only because it’s a cold night, and the lights are off”
“Like that’s any excuse, wait a minute—“
I looked down and could feel something warm smeared on my stomach. I felt around his body and he tensed up when I touched the wound.
“You’re bleeding, how did this—“
“haha ah yes that. Suppose I should get those things I came for.”
He backed away from the desk and went to get the flashlight I had dropped earlier. He then searched through a cabinet, found the first aid kit, and proceeded to patch himself up. I quickly started to re-button my shirt feeling embarrassed at what just happened.
“I must thank you Amber, you saved me the trouble of undoing my own shirt. Makes things a lot easier for me”
“S-Shut up. This doesn’t change anything”
I climbed off his desk as he finished treating the wound and fixing his clothes as well. What now? I mean, what the hell just happened? He seemed to notice my confusion and walked over to me. For some reason I backed away slightly when he touched my hand and pulled me back to him. I shut my eyes as I could sense his face near mine again.
“Keep making this game fun for me, Detective Belfry”
When I opened my eyes he was gone. I looked in my hand to find a small key, and tested it to find it to be the door key. I shook my head and picked up the flashlight, I still had some unfinished business here, couldn’t let this case go unsolved after all.
